Careers...

Ruapehu College has a well-resourced careers department that is openly available for all students to use at any time. These resources are being continually monitored for effectiveness and are upgraded as required. 

The Information Resource Centre has been adapted to house careers resources for the students’ use.  Here the careers TV and video are to be found as well as internet access for the very useful www.kiwicareers.govt.nz   that is used New Zealand-wide in schools for careers information.

All Year 10 students do a Careers Unit in Social Studies.  After looking at their own qualities, strengths and interests, they look at which occupations fit with what they know about themselves.  A careers visit to a city is also part of the course.

All students are advised at least once yearly on the subjects that they should take for their chosen careers.   Pamphlets, books, videos, internet and visiting professionals all add to the sound advice that is given by the careers teacher.
